LPN Programs in Chicago, Illinois
In Chicago, one option to consider when choosing a career path is to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The job of an LPN is rewarding, and there are opportunities for advancement. This is a great way to begin a new career that requires relatively little post-secondary education.
The first step on this career path is to choose from the various LPN programs in Chicago. When looking into programs, it is important to make sure that they are accredited and approved by the Illinois Board of Nursing. These programs vary in terms of the time it takes to complete them, but many can be finished in one year of full-time study.
Online vs. On-site Programs
Some of the LPN programs in Chicago will offer courses online, while others will be entirely on-site. Regardless, clinical experience is necessary. Both classroom and online learning environments are beneficial. Courses that take place in a classroom setting allow students to network with classmates and to speak with instructors in person. Online courses provide greater flexibility, as students can log in 24/7 to complete lectures and coursework.
After Completing the Training
After completing an LPN program, students must pass the NCLEX-PN licensure exam. Individuals in Illinois have three years following program completion to pass the NCLEX and become licensed before they are required to complete another LPN education program.
