In order to take the CNA examination and become certified to work as CNA in Arizona, an individual must complete and submit a nursing assistant certification application. If convictions are found, there will be an investigation which can take anywhere from 4 to 6 months.
A nurse must show one of the following in order to take the examination:
- A copy of the 'certificate of completion' received from a nursing assistant training program that has been approved by the Arizona Board of Nursing.
- Proof that the applicant has completed either a 120 or 75 hour nursing assistant program which has been approved by another state or territory, and proof that he or she worked at least 45 hours as a nursing assistant.
- Proof that the applicant has graduated from an RN or LPN program that is approved by the state of Arizona or holds a valid RN/LPN license, or meets educational requirements for RN/LPN licensure in Arizona. An applicant meeting this criterion would take only the written exam.
