LPN to BSN Programs in Oklahoma

Oklahoma LPN to BSN Programs

Nurses in the state of Oklahoma can earn an average of $12 to $21 an hour. If the nurse holds an advanced nursing degree, he or she can earn anywhere between $20 and $35 an hour. Anyone who is working as an LPN nurse and wants to earn an advanced nursing degree may want to consider applying for an LPN to BSN program. These advanced nursing programs are offered by traditional and online colleges and allow nurses to earn their advanced degree faster than pursuing a traditional BSN program.

The LPN to BSN program is designed to allow nurses to earn their advanced nursing degree in three to four years. A traditional BSN program can take a nursing student anywhere from four to six years to complete. The shorter time span of the LPN to BSN program is due to a number of factors. The first factor is the ability nursing students have to test out of classes. Nursing students can take a written test that encompasses many of the basic skills and knowledge nurses need. If the student passes they are able to be exempt from the basic nursing courses and move on to the advanced courses.

Another factor that makes the LPN to BSN program move along faster is the ability to use work experience towards clinicals. Clinicals are a time when nurses use the knowledge and skills they learn in the classroom in a real life setting. LPN nurses are already working in a real life healthcare setting. The LPN to BSN program allows nursing students to use their real life work experience in place of clinicals. The employer has to agree to work with the college, but if used properly the nursing student doesn’t have to take the time to take part in a separate clinical course.

Current LPN nurses in the state of Oklahoma who wish to apply to an LPN to BSN program will find the application process similar to any four year college program. Prospective students will be required to submit proof of a high school diploma or GED certificate. They will need to submit proof of ACT or SAT scores, and they will need to complete an admissions packet. Nurses who wish to apply to the LPN to BSN program will also need to provide proof of a valid, current LPN certificate and proof that they held a job as an LPN nurse for at least six months.
