LPN to BSN Programs in Tennessee

Tennessee LPN to BSN Programs

Healthcare industry experts expect the number of nursing jobs to increase by almost 20% in the next 20 years. The combination of an aging population and advances in the healthcare industry will open up numerous jobs in the nursing industry. Nurses in the state of Tennessee who wish to take advantage of the numerous jobs that will open up might want to consider pursuing an advanced nursing degree. LPN nurses are eligible to enroll in a program that will allow them to earn their advanced nursing degree, while working as an LPN nurse in the healthcare industry.

The LPN to BSN program offered by many online and traditional colleges allows LPN nurses to use their existing knowledge and skills towards their advanced nursing degree. One of the ways Tennessee nurses can use their skills and knowledge to their advantage is to test out of basic nursing courses. Nursing students have the option to take a written test that will show the college that they possess the skills and knowledge that is already taught in basic nursing courses. If a student passes the test they will be exempt from the basic nursing courses and move on to advanced nursing courses.

Another advantage of the LPN to BSN program over a traditional BSN program is that nursing students have the ability to use work experience towards their clinicals. Clinicals are a reserved time when nursing students are able to use their skills and knowledge in a real world setting. Nursing students who are working as an LPN nurse can work with their employer to use the experience that they gain from their job towards their clinicals. The employer needs to work with the college, but if this works out students do not have to take part in separate clinicals.

Any nursing student who is interested in enrolling in an LPN to BSN program will need to complete the admissions process. The admissions process is very similar to any four year college. The admissions process will vary from school to school, but there are a few things that are similar regardless of the school. Prospective students will be required to submit proof of a high school diploma or GED certificate, SAT or ACT scores, and letters of recommendation. Prospective nursing students will also be required to submit proof of a current and valid Tennessee LPN certificate and proof that they have worked as an LPN nurse for at least six months.
